Institutional rules prioritize your education; you should never be forced to choose training over a scheduled class. If a recurring conflict exists, AQCESS serves as your insulated channel to the administration. We help navigate these conflicts and ensure your academic rights are protected using whistleblower-style safeguards so you can focus on your studies without fear of team retribution. Reach out to discuss.
Yes. AQCESS is designed to be an insulated, safe harbor. Whether you are speaking with a counselor or utilizing our feedback platform regarding coaching concerns, your privacy is a priority. We exist to provide a space where you can be honest without fear of that information reaching your coaching staff or affecting your status on the team.
If you are worried about a teammate’s well-being or have observed behavior that violates institutional rules or athlete safety, AQCESS provides a secure platform to voice these concerns. We offer protected channels for coach evaluation and feedback, allowing you to alert the administration to issues of exploitation or rule-bending while remaining shielded from team-based reprisal.
At Aquinas, the "student" always comes before the "athlete." If you are being pressured to move classes, skip labs, or prioritize training over your degree, AQCESS is your advocate. You should not have to choose between your scholarship and your education. We provide a confidential way to address these pressures with the administration, ensuring that institutional rules are upheld while protecting you from any retaliation regarding playing time or team status.
Being a student-athlete requires a high level of discipline that many professors admire, but occasionally conflicts arise. If you feel you are being treated unfairly or held to a different standard because of your sport, AQCESS can help bridge the gap. We work with you to ensure you are meeting all academic responsibilities and can assist in mediating conversations with faculty to ensure your role as a representative of AQ is respected and supported.
Speak with an LPC Graduate Counselor: For professional, supervised mental health support regarding anxiety, depression, or high-level stress.
Connect with a Student-Athlete Mentor: For peer-to-peer advice and relatability from someone who has navigated the AQ athlete experience.
Attend an AQCESS Group Session: To talk through common pressures like performance anxiety or time management in a low-pressure setting with other athletes.
Burnout is a sign that the "dual demand" of academics and athletics has become unsustainable. AQCESS provides a holistic "reset." We offer stress-management workshops, peer support groups, and professional counseling to help you recalibrate your schedule and rediscover a healthy balance between your "Student" and "Athlete" identities.
Physical recovery is handled by your trainers, but the mental and social toll of being sidelined is handled by AQCESS. You can reach out to our Student-Athlete Mentors who have navigated the same frustrations, or join our Injury Support Group to stay connected to the community. If the emotional weight feels heavy, our LPC graduate counselors are available for one-on-one sessions to help you build a psychological recovery plan.
Deciding to step away is a major life transition. Our mentors can help you process the social shift, while our LPC counselors can help you navigate the identity change. We are here to ensure you remain a supported and valued member of the AQ community, regardless of your roster status.
The transition out of competitive athletics is a significant shift. AQCESS offers specific workshops and one-on-one sessions to help you translate your athletic skills—like discipline and resilience—into a career path. We help you prepare for the "what's next" so you feel confident when the jersey comes off.
Our Student-Athlete Mentors are peers—current or former AQ athletes who offer tips on campus life and academic navigation. Our LPC Graduate Counselors are clinicians-in-training who provide supervised, professional mental health support. You can choose whichever level of support feels right for you.
Absolutely. The AQCESS Initiative is for every student-athlete at Aquinas College, regardless of division, scholarship status, or playing time. If you are a Saint on a roster, you are part of our community.
